Five Song Friday 3/31/17 Ultra Edition
So in a special edition of Five Song Friday I’m doing a review of 5 unreleased tracks that were debuted at Ultra Music Festival in Miami Florida. Just a disclaimer this isn’t ultra in the sense it’s significantly better than previous articles. Any improvements are merely coincidental. How did you get unreleased tracks, you might be asking. I watched the livestream pretty much all weekend, picked out some new songs, and verified it with the handy-dandy internet. Thanks to the magic of YouTube people way more dedicated than me were able to pull these songs directly from the live performance for all of our listening pleasure. When these songs actually do come out I might re-review them once I have more to go one but the "effort" was in locating these songs not really reviewing them. Whatever, I don't have to explain myself...just enjoy or whatever.
Area 21- Glad you Came
I first heard this song during Martin Garrix’s set and was pretty intrigued. It definitely stuck out to me because the party/frat rap feel that this song has doesn’t really fit with Garrix’s usual sound. But overall it’s a fun song that probably won’t get too big but is interesting enough to point out just in case it does. You know, trying to keep my hipster status intact.
Axwell^Ingrosso- More than you know
As an old school fan of Swedish House Mafia I’m still extremely bitter I never got the chance to see them live. But having two legs of the famous tripod is pretty good. I really like the sound that this song has. It is a little short in order to fit in the show but I think there’s a ton of potential here and I’m really excited to hear what it finally sounds like when it gets released. The sad thing is I don’t know if they’ll keep the bass parts that I enjoy in the live version in the radio release but my fingers are crossed.
Hardwell & Kaaze- We are Legends
Hardwell is great DJ and even though I didn’t particularly enjoy his set last year, he has a history of putting out great songs. This song in particular has been in his set but not released for almost a year now. He debuted it at Ultra Europe in July, played it again at Ultra Miami and yet we still don’t know when he plans to release it. This song is reminiscent of EDM from three or four years ago and especially Hardwell’s song Spaceman and I definitely enjoy it. It’s not what I’ve become used to in the scene but a bit of a throwback is always appreciated.
Afrojack & David Guetta- Another Life
As much of a dbag as Afrojack comes across in interviews this man can put together one hell of a set. His set from Ultra was easily one of my favorites from the live stream. I genuinely can’t wait for this to come out. All signs point to this being a success, great vocals, great feel, David Guetta’s name on there. There's not much else to say, I'm looking forward to this one most of all.
Tiesto & KSHMR feat. CADE- Underwater
Tiesto is a mainstay at Ultra. He always has something interesting to debut at the festival and this year was no different. KSHMR was introduced to us by Tiesto at Ultra two or three years ago and now Tiesto brought him back to show off their collaboration. There’s alot going on with this one. There’s definitely a Tiesto feel to the melody with some heavy piano, then it goes into almost an Avicii style sound which is a little bittersweet because it reminds me he hasn’t put out anything recently. But I digress, can’t wait for this to come out as well.
