Five Song Friday 05/12/17

Kyle feat. Lil Yachty- ISpy (Mar 2017)

So I wanted to throw this song in last weeks article but I felt like it had been out a long time already and was too popular to make it worth me writing about. But screw it I’ve been listening to it nonstop and love the song and this is my website and I write about whatever I damn well please. Having the love hate relationship with Lil Boat that I do I was hesitant to listen to his song with someone, Kyle, that I haven’t heard anything else from. But as it slipped into the playlist on my roadtrip to New Orleans I found myself nodding along not knowing who sang it but just knowing I liked the song. Original in sound and feel, I love that a happier upbeat rap song is actually making it into the mainstream. I peg Kyle as more of a one hit wonder but who knows, Yachty has at least two to his name and I thought he’d be out of the mainstream by now. Bravo guys, this ones gonna be around a while.

Song: 9.5/10                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Video: 7.5/10

Krewella- Be There (May 2017)

Brand new song from the hitmakers Krewella. Seemingly recovered from the departure of one of their band members a few years ago these sisters (literally and metaphorically) came back stronger than ever. I really enjoy this one, it’s simple yet there’s enough to muster up an emotional reaction. I’m glad to see them making a comeback. They were one of the first groups to really pave the way to the top of the charts for EDM artists. I don’t know if the charts would be as welcoming as they are right now. Without “Alive” I don’t think there’d be this massive influx of electronic music into the mainstream.

Song: 8.5/10                                                                                                 Video: 8/10

Maroon 5 feat Future (R3hab & Khrebto Remix)- Cold (May 2017)

Another carryover from my experience in New Orleans, “Cold” was played quite a few times on the way down in anticipation of the Maroon 5 concert. Also I continually yelled, “Bring out Future!” during the concert itself (it got a few laughs, I don’t regret it) but unfortunately neither Future nor this song made an appearance. I don’t want to miss my chance to throw this on my Five Song Friday playlist for a second time so I figured the remix is good enough. The original song is great, the remix is good, this article is mediocre, there’s levels to everything I guess.

Song: 8.5/10

Matoma & Magic! Feat. D.R.A.M. (Bad Royale Remix) - Girl At Coachella (May 2017)

Apparently this was a big song back in March but honestly had no idea it really existed but I also have never been to Coachella which shows how hip I am *eyeroll. I’m not crazy about the original but this remix makes the song much more my speed. Magic! if you remember was responsible for one of the biggest songs of the last four years and them, like magic, disappeared (that was a good one you got to admit). But they are back, talking about how crazy girls are at Coachella are, I mean, c'mon everyone knows that right guys? Oh shit I already said I haven’t been...oh this is awkward...yeah... I’m a liar....

Song: 7.5/10

Steve Aoki & DVBBS feat 2 Chainz- Without You (Apr 2017)

Well damn. I think we have a banger on our hands. I mean you got 2 Chainz, Steve Aoki, and DVBBS what did you expect. This is definitely a club song or a workout song. High energy, loud sounds, big build ups I hope I get to see Aoki in concert just for him to throw this song out there. I know it sounds like I’m super high on this song, but it's more that I see the potential for the song and how it’d be received in a festival setting like Ultra or a club like Echostage. Definitely a good edition to any workout mix.
