Five Song Friday 1/13/2017

So as I continue to post a blog article a week on Mondays (i mean fingers crossed I actually keep up with that) I’m hoping to start another regular posting. I’m going to talk about 5 songs that I have strong feelings about, I could love them, I could hate them, I could just feel that they’re mediocre. But I’m hoping to convey my thoughts on what I’ve been listening to and also get myself to listen to a broader music selection. trying to overcome my crippling procrastination, I've put up the arbitrary Friday deadline. I kinda have to put this up on Fridays otherwise there’s no gimmick. Not the greatest as far as gimmicks go but the alliteration is all I got, so...

The Chainsmokers- Paris (Jan 2017) -

As far I’m concerned The Chainsmokers have been THE consummate hit-maker over the past year. They’ve churned out chart topping songs from "Roses" to "Don’t Let Me Down" to  "Closer" they’re killing it. (they make so many hits that some of their better songs in my opinion get buried, see "New York City" and "Inside Out"). With their new song “Paris,” that was released the same day I’m writing this, they stay in the same lane they did with “Closer.” It has a romantic, tropical feel that seems to have the undercurrent of sadness. (I know that’s not the most elaborate description but I’m trying). It has a lot of pop chart potential and will undoubtedly be sung by white girls at a plethora of college parties. I for one am looking forward to the remixes that are sure to come out. Look for this one to be on radio rotation real soon.

Migos - Bad & Boujee (R3hab vs No Riddim & It's Different Remix) Whatsup everybody :) Something for the people a little harder and different tempo i normally operate on! Can't wait to share all the new music in 2017!

Bad and Boujee- Migos (R3hab vs No Riddim & It's Different Remix) (Jan 2017)

As Donald Glover said, “like, that’s the best song ever,” well minus the last like minute and a half. Holy hell does Lil Uzi destroy that song. I’m not going to sit here and bash the guy but even his biggest fan has to admit his verse is a little out of place. Soooo what did R3hab do? He cut the verse out and made the song undeniably more “lit”. This is an immediate addition to your gym playlist or good for any other time you need to pump yourself up. I would highly recommend R3hab’s other remixes if, like me, you want to listen to pop music but still want to impress your hipster friends.

Sexual- Neiked (Sept 2016)

Why did you post the SoundCloud link instead of the YouTube link, you may ask? Well, I love the song but hot damn that video is strange and not sure if that should be the first way you hear it. You can imagine what's in the video posting this link with the background art seemed like the more conservative approach. Either way, this is a song that even with its sexual overtones is just a fun song. I feel like I want to do that Temptations rock and slide out every time I listen to it.  Definitely give it a listen and try not to groove to it, I dare you.

Latest video off of Lil Dicky's debut album "Professional Rapper."

Molly- Lil’ Dicky (Jun 2016)

I’m really not one for sad songs. I generally don’t listen to them. Mostly because if I’m in a good mood what kind of masochist would I be to want to make myself sad? Or if I’m sad why would I want to listen to something to make me even sadder? But, as far as sad songs go this one is pretty awesome. The music video is really the hand flourish at the end of a magic trick that puts this song over the top for me. The relatability that this song has is what keeps me listening to it. Everybody’s experienced something like what Lil Dicky is talking about and what’s in the video. For sure check it out.

Castle on the Hill (Acoustic) - Ed Sheeran (Jan 2017

Ed Sheeran had been pretty quiet as far as new music goes. I’m not sure but I don’t think he put anything out last year so, like a lot of people, I kinda forgot about him. Not the “I have no idea who you’re talking about” but the “oh shit, that’s right” kinda forgot. Then he goes and releases two songs as the new year starts just to remind everybody what a talent he is. This one is definitely my favorite of the two and the acoustic version is even better. A pinch of happy, a pinch of sad, and a heaping pile of nostalgia. It’s one of those songs that attaches itself to memories you have from years before the song was even a thought. Not sure when the album is coming out but it should have plenty of hits (if his last album is any indication). Look for a big 2017 from Mr. Sheeran for sure.
