Five Song Friday 02/10/17

Trouble- R3hab feat. VÉRITÉ (Feb 2017)

I don’t know what it is but I seem to have a thing for artists that have three’s instead of E’s in their names (I only know of two). R3hab made my Five Song Friday a few weeks back with his contribution on the Bad and Boujee remix but this time is an original song. I’m glad he could step away from his tendency for remixes and put out something like this. He doesn’t get a ton of recognition but his songs are some of the most popular ones in other DJs live shows. He knows how to put a great song together especially something he created. He might even show up next week with another one of his remixes but we’ll see. Either way, a great person to follow if you like remixes and consistently good work.

Song: 7.5/10                                                                                                                             Video: N/A

El Amante- Nicky Jam (Jan 2017)

“Nicky, Nicky, Yam,” I told you all that I was back on my Reggaeton kick and here’s another major hit in the Latin Music World. Nicky Jam has had some of the biggest songs in the last couple of years and this one is most likely his next in line. It has everything that you look for in a Reggaeton song, it’s got that familiar “dum, diddy, dum, dum” that you can bachata and merengue to. It’s got a little part you can sing even if you have no idea what he saying which draw in the non-spanish speakers (looking at you, da me mas gasolina). It’s feels familiar while still feeling new which is always a hard line to walk but Nicky Jam pulls it off. I think this song will be around a while, it’s video is closing in on 100,000,000 views in under a month so the support is strong with this one. The video is highly entertaining too, not the traditional Reggaeton video but it actually has a storyline that lines up with the song which rarely happens.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Song: 7.5/10                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Video: 8/10

Only One- Sigala & Digital Farm Animals (Dec 2016)

Sigala, if you remember put out one of the biggest songs last year with Easy Love that sampled from the Jackson 5 and who doesn’t like the Jackson 5. This one is another in a line of hits for Sigala who usually put out a hit a year. Though this one does sound a lot like Galantis, I still enjoy the sound. Its definitely one of those happy spring/summer songs that you have on in you car with the windows down and are just content with life. It’ll lift your mood for sure. I haven’t looked into Digital Farms Animals but I do like their name so I guess that’s half the battle. THe video for this one has a pretty played out premise, nerdy kids get bullied, nerdy kind nerd out and make this awesome technology, nerdy kids solve their problem through said technology. Even still, it’s a fun music video that seems to fit the happy summer mood of the song. Bravo Galantis...um... I mean Sigala, it’s a great song.

Song: 7/10                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Video: 7.5/10

Don’t Know Me- Jax Jones feat. RAYE (dec 2016)

This is a song that has been on top of the Soundcloud EDM charts for a week or two but I didn’t really give it a chance. But when, I did, oh man did I find one of my new favorite songs. This song is catchy as hell with a super talented singer supplying the vocals. I could listen to this thing on repeat and not be the least bit upset. I haven’t heard much from Jax Jones so I can only assume this is one of his first hits. Hopefully he sticks around cause I enjoy the bass and groove undertones along with the vocals. Looking forward to what else Jax can come out with in the future. The video is just a dancing cereal box so not that interesting. But definitely check out the live performance of the song cause RAYE is super talented and it’s a cool and different version of the song.

Song: 9/10                                                                                                                               Video: 6/10

DJ Esco feat. Future, Lil Uzi Vert- Too Much Sauce (Dec 2016)

Ok, so I officially feel out of the loop. I’ve heard “sauce” a lot more recently and I just nod and pretend like I know what people are talking about. But it’s kind of like before Sen Ed you pretend you know what the older kids are talking about. I thought that this song will help clear things up, you know, go to the source to learn. But after this I’m probably even more confused. It seems like sauce can really be anything you need it to be which is kind of beautiful if you think about it. Well the song itself is what you can expect from Future a awesome bass heavy beat with a few coherent words yet you still feel like you can sing it. This is definitely a better version of Lil Uzi than Bad and Boujee which is good I guess, but it couldn’t get much worse than that. I really enjoy that fact that I’m watching the gradual decline of my ability to know what’s popular music. It’s like a really slow car wreck that you’re kind of glad is happening cause that settlement check at the end is going to pay off                                                                                                                                                              your student loans.

                                                                                                                                                         Song: 6.5/10                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Video: 6/10
