Five Song Friday 3/10/17

In related news, before I get into my reviews, Vice “stole” the free picture (above) I use on these articles for one of theirs, (evidence). I feel like this is grounds for a lawsuit. Maybe they could sweeten the pot, with I don't know, a job? You scratch my back I don't sue you. I feel like all parties will benefit from this deal...well mostly me...I can’t really afford a lawyer... and I also want to work for Vice. Please hire me!?

Justin Caruso feat. Victoria Zaro- Talk About Me (Feb 2017)

A newcomer to the artists featured here, Justin Caruso comes in with a solid piece of work. I haven’t followed Justin before, but this song has been making the rounds on different websites and I felt like I should give it a listen. Overall a good song that is in similar veins to the collabs that have come out recently, Zedd/Alessia Cara and Kygo/Selena Gomez, even some of Major Lazer stuff as well. While not screaming originality this song carves out a nice spot at the table at least. This is like a side dish, you kinda like it but it’s not the star of the show but you say it’s good because your aunt made it and you don’t want to hurt her feelings so you just kinda say it’s good but aren’t too specific because on the spectrum of good and bed it’s closer to average than good, but I digress.

Tiesto- On My Way (Feb 2017)

Tiesto is legendary DJ and Producer that puts out at least one song a year that really blows people away. Last year Secrets was his big song and this year it looks like On My Way is the one. This is such a well produced song that you almost forget that it’s an EDM song, I’m sure there’s a more specific way to classify it, but EDM genres are so confusing and convoluted I’m not going to try. While not being quite as memorable (sorry Tiesto, not like he’s reading this) it’s truly a very enjoyable song when you do decide to listen. What I do think makes this song stand out stand out is the music video. The video tracks 4 or 5 people as they travel across the world to come to Tiesto's birthday party in Las Vegas. I don’t know why I’m such a sucker for travel+festival videos but I love this video. It’s shot amazingly well and transitions from the professional shots to the POV shots without taking you out of the experience. It seems very authentic which is something you don’t often find.

Cash Cash & ROZES Matches (March 2017)

THE most slept on EDM artist for me is Cash Cash. They consistently put out top notch work from originals like this one to remixes to collabs, everything they touch really. I remember first hearing them back in 2015 and being wowed by a lot of their stuff and since then they’ve continued to produced. This song is no different. Their mix of light melodies and heavy hip hop bass lines make their stuff super unique and for me, super enjoyable. Teaming up with ROZES from Roses fame, confusing I know, they pulled off a great tune. I don’t know what else I can say other than bravo Cash Cash, stay UPS and keep delivering.

Gryffin, Illenium feat. Daya- Feel Good (March 2017)

Two of the kings of remixes Gryffin and Illenium came together to put this together and deliver some original work right before festival season. Illenium was just featured here for his song Fractures and now he helps put out another great song. Another collaboration with a past Chainsmokers collaborator in Daya makes this list, which is entirely coincidental. My only complaint this song is that towards the end it does sound a little similar to Porter Robinson’s Language which took my little bit out of it when I first heard it. Either way, I found myself singing this song while doing unrelated activities and realized how much I enjoyed it. This is turning into a great year for Illenium and Gryffin and I’m looking forward to seeing how it pans out for them through the festival season. It also reminds me that I’m not attending Ultra this year which is a bit disappointing.

Elephante feat Brandyn Burnette Plans (Sept 2016)

Do you know how many artists have a name that is some form of elephant? Too many. Enough to make me forget how to spell the word elephant. I remember flipping my phone over and seeing who made this song and thinking, “oh elephant, I’ll be able to remember that.” Nope, nope past me, you won’t be able to remember that. This week I decided to finally put in some effort in a ta-da I’ve found the right Elephante and found the right song from a couple months ago. I'm looking forward to what this young artist is going to do in the coming years as he’s only really put out songs for two years, so he’s got a ton of room to grow. I really just wanted to put it in here because I finally found the not because it’ll rock your socks. Sorry
