Major Lazer- Know No Better (June 2017)

So Major Lazer, led by Diplo, dropped a total of six songs yesterday and as a recent connoisseur of electronic music I have to write about it. I picked my two favorites and this is probably my favorite of the two. Anytime you include Travis Scott and Quavo you are in line to make a hit, (Congratulations, Slide, The One...). I like the carribbean feel that this has with a pretty unique melody. Travis Scott really kills this one, I think he’s one of the main reasons I like it as much as I do. Quavo seems mildly out of place but what do I know... Overall a great song that I can see really gathering some momentum.

Major Lazer- Particula (June 2017)

This is my second favorite song Major Lazer released but it is a very close second (for now, I mean as I'm writing this it moving up my made up chart I keep in my head). I’m not sure if this borrows more Jamaican or more African themes (west Africa for those in-the-know) but it’s got an amazing feel. Whoa, I just looked up Ice Prince and confirmed my suspicion, he’s Nigerian, I know I can’t prove it to you all but I definitely called that. (Shoutout to Danika for showing me Nigerian music back in the day) I really do like this song and hope this style gets recognized more over on this side of the Atlantic.

Fall Out Boy & Porter Robinson (Prince Fox edit) - Sugar, We’re a Sad Machine (May 2017)

Well this wasn’t really what I was expecting...but also exactly what I expected in a weird way. Two great songs from pretty dynamically different genres colliding in a pretty unique way. I mean the creativity needed to just TRY and pull this off is crazy. I think this is very well done, the only thing I missed was more of a mashup towards the end, it was pretty overwhelmingly Porter Robinson but again props for just attempting this.

Matoma ft. Faith Evans, The Notorious B.I.G & Snoop Dogg - Party on the west coast (May 2017)

Another weirdly awesome remix/mashup thing, this time with one of the best old school hip hop party songs with two of the best rappers to ever do it. Matoma has this Kygo-esque tropical melody playing over a classic Biggie and Snoop Dogg song. I didn’t know I needed this in my life but I'm glad its out there. Kind of an homage to his biggest song “Old Thing Back” this kind of music might be Matoma’s niche. It’s such a unique take on a remix I mean, a lot like the last song, props for just trying to pull this off Matoma!

4th Dimension- Australia (May 2015)

A tad late to this song should probably made it on an earlier list but here I am. I like how this song blends that Mumford & Sons folky feel and the tropical/deep house that I love. I haven’t heard of 4th Dimension before a few days ago but this type of vibey music seems to be their calling card. This is a great background song if you ever need to chill or zone out but not the greatest if you want to stay awake. I’m currently listening on loop while forcing myself to write this after a full day of work and I feel like one of those puppies in the videos that can’t keep their heads up and eventually fall into their water bowl proceeding to scare the shit out of themselves...yeah.
