Five Song Friday 1/27/17
Whoa you're here...I'm kinda surprised. I don't really get the clicks on this thing. At this point I'm just trying to write about songs that are going to go mainstream. It's basically one big referable I told you so. Whatever, I'm doing this for me anyway. You can check out my reviews below if you want but you're reading this so its a win for me either way.
Morgan Page & Steve Page- Candles (Jan 2017)
Another great Soundcloud find that helps make my hour long commute in the morning some kind of bearable. While not a “wow, this is my new favorite song” song it does deliver that consistency that you look for in a playlist addition. The best way to describe it is a little better than most of the mediocre EDM songs you’ve heard. You follow me? I know that’s kind of ambiguous. Ok...um...it’s like Domino’s better than most of the pizza out there but nothing to make a big deal about it. It is a good song though. This is why ratings are important people. I tossing word salad right now and you have no idea where I stand until I put my fancy new one to ten scale down.

Schwarz- Home (Jan 2017)
Never heard of Schwarz before but this is an awesome song with a super powerful music video. The connection between the people in the video and the volunteer work I’ve done definitely impacts my feelings about this song. The goal of having people that you feel at home around and that you want to continually surround yourself with really shows through in this song. This is definitely not a chart topper but I do think people should hear it and at least check it out for the video. Its an emotional ride for anybody that’s left a little piece of themselves somewhere and can’t go back.

DJ Snake feat. Swizz Beatz, Jeremih, Young Thug - The Half (Jan 2017)
DJ Snake coming through with a new song for the first time in a while. Riding the wave of EDM artists teaming up with mainstream artists, DJ Snake and Young Thug team up to deliver a song the taps into 2 demographics (well tries to anyway). I’m going to be totally honest I have no idea what makes good hip hop anymore but Young Thug seems to have his finger on the pulse so I’m assuming this is what the people want. I do trust Swizz Beatz with hip hop though so I’m guessing this is good. Its pretty far from a traditional EDM song but there’s definitely potential for it to get picked up in that genre (probably with a few good remixes). For me this seems like a better-than-mediocre EDM song and at best, an interesting hip hop song, but it is fun to listen to.

Young Thug- Wyclef Jean (Jan 2017)
“Whoa! Two Young Thug songs in one week? I think that’s too much?” To answer the question, I don’t really care what you think. I’m not sure how to feel about the song itself, I flip between mediocre and just below mediocre. I’m not sure there are actually words in some parts but it somehow remains interesting. With that being, said the video for this one is capital A, Awesome! Apparently Young Thug didn’t show up to his own damn video shoot so the director had to piece together whatever footage he could and turns out this masterpiece. I’m not entirely sure whether this was the plan the whole time or not but it would have to be some Blair Witch Project level bamboozlement if it was. Vice does corroborate the story via Noisey: Atlanta but in this age of alternative facts, who knows.
Song: 5.5/10 Video: 9/10
Post Malone feat. Quavo- Congratulations (Jan 2017)
Post Malone is one of my favorite artists right now, not really for his music but as an interesting guy. His interviews are hilarious, especially on the YouTube famous Hot Ones and Noisey. But I don’t know how many people know what kind of a rockstar this guy is (more in mentality than status, obviously). Watch him perform Killing in The Name Of and absolutely kill it. I’m gonna hop off for a second, while this song doesn’t reach the level of White Iverson it is still a solid song that I wouldn’t be surprised to hear on the radio real soon. The video itself is a cool compliment to the song that's aesthetically on point but doesn’t really offer anything game changing. If you don’t like Post, Quavo from Migos is on here so maybe you’ll watch because of him? Who knows?
